ABDEHILMNS
demo/selfp. (2008)
I’m not sure what’s about this CD, if it’s an album (selfproduced, but not fabric silver CD printed), or a nice packed demo. I will take it and rate it as a demo, so the result wouldn’t be so bad for IPONAH. IPONAH is one-man band from Finland. Everything’s making by „Chrimera“ (not „Chimera“, and this nick would be better) itself. It’s a long-played demo, where the keyboards and the PC have quiet important role (sadly). In a promo sheet was written, it’s „primitive black metal“. I would say, it‘s ambient/black. Maybe it won’t be so, but it’s so. Chrimera should deserve some „asskick“ for the intro and outro. Today’s "in" somekind of a deviation, that the intro is much longer as needed. Here‘s extreme long and disturbing, even also the outro. We can hear more than 4 minutes of simple keyboards melody. I helped it by using the „Skip“ button on my player, so I used STOP at the end of the CD eventually. It’s total nonsense and boredom. This „helped“ these CD somewhere into the average. And it’s making problems. If the intro would run about one minute and any outro on „Obsessed“ common, the demo would have the playtime about half and hour (what would be great). After the weak intro, the playing finally starts. The work’s essence is black metal –except for the drums. These are automatic, horrible, terrible samples. Not worstest in metal music overalls, but they’re coming under nice bad category. Synthetic, embarrassing, I have problem as a metalian with them. The music to it isn’t bad. It’s a good, angry second-wave black. The vocals are little strange, as screeches through some machine, but OK. The music isn’t fast, seems to be primitive, but I heard also more simple works in the genre. One song is some intermezzo, the music is as played on a cello, slow, and with some recital. The song is long enough and all right. This could be the one and only intro. IPONAH is playing nordic black, quiet OK, only the drums are pans and pots there (like by Pink, Britney or other pop interprets from the „enemy camp“): synthetical, artificial. The demo is a high-average in overalls. Nice made artwork, booklet, digipak, nice done cover etc. Respect! CD-R‘s profi printed, right. Only the content isn’t so great. If not terrible intro and outro exists, it would be for 7 points (-2 points for the drums without mercy, non-metal strange sounds and provocations). We’ll see what will do IPONAH in the future. Chrimera, try to find real drums please! And one more thing: „intros out“!!! If they’re not as f.e. „MMXII“ from TORTURE SQUAD, they’re not needed anyway! They’re uselessly, they must really fit to the next song perfectly and have great atmosphere, what’s succeeds nice rarely.
